100 years after the Treaty of Saint-Germain and the incorporation of South Tyrol and Trentino into the Italian state, the ArtinTheAlps association presented the project "Bivacco" to an international audience during the 58th Venice Biennale.

A bivouac, in Italian "Bivacco," is a small emergency shelter in the high mountains that is always open to fulfill its vital function and guarantee access to anyone in need of protection. The original bivouac is intended to be an allegory of South Tyrol, a land of transit and exchange, as well as a place of reception and overcoming borders. This emergency shelter was provided by the famous mountaineer Reinhold Messner.

In the bivouac, works by artists Jacopo Candotti, Nicolò Degiorgis, Hannes Egger, Julia Frank, Simon Perathoner, Leander Schönweger, and Maria Walcher were exhibited, all closely linked to the vision and concept of the place of transition. These works and the journey of the bivouac itself were documented in a catalog with texts by Roberto De Martin, Hannes Egger, Hannes Obermair, Maxi Obexer, and Christiane Rekade as well as Patrizia Spadafora. The catalog conveys the multicultural character of the bivouac through various binding techniques and papers.
